SSL Gold Cup African and Oceanian Qualifier Day 1

Jumping the gun on the start by two seconds proved costly for the Mozambique Gala-Gala team on day one of the SL Gold Cup Africa and Oceania Qualifier, with them having to turn back and restart, playing catch up with the rest of the fleet.

The team kept calm and in contention throughout in the light winds, but were unable to catch the others, finishing fourth.

Myriam Beck explained, “Honestly, mistakes happen, and I trust fully that we’re going to be able to recover from a start like that. We kept our mind on the race and we are going to perform to the best of our abilities every day. This is not going to happen again, tomorrow’s a new day, we’re looking forward to it, and we’re super excited to get back into it and show all Mozambiquans that they can be very proud of their team.”

A storm then hit Lake Neuchâtel sending the fleet ashore, but conditions look great for Wednesday afternoon, which should allow three races to be held, bringing the schedule back on track.
